Review of Consolidaated Operations

Theme Park Segment 83.8%

Revenues increased 0.5% over the previous fiscal year to ¥282,097 million with operating income decreasing 0.7% to ¥30,594 million.

  • Event strategies at the two theme parks and steady performance in average occupancy rates at the hotel and average revenues per guest room contributed to the year-on-year increase in revenues. Operating income fell slightly due to increases in expenses related to entertainment, in line with the expanded calendar of events.

Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea

  • Annual attendance at the two theme parks reached a record-high 25.473 million, a 2.6% increase over the previous fiscal year.
  • Revenues per guest declined 2.7% year-on-year to ¥9,247 mainly due to sales of diversified types of tickets in pursuit of the strategic enhancement of the appeal of Tokyo Disney Resort.
  • In response to requests from guests, two new kinds of annual tickets were added: one for Tokyo DisneySea alone and the other for both parks, supplementing the conventional annual ticket that had been limited to Tokyo Disneyland. We also began selling theme park tickets on the Internet through the Tokyo Disney Resort official Web site.
  • On April 15, 2003, Tokyo Disneyland celebrated the 20th anniversary of its opening with various events under the theme of "Dreams." "Mickey's Gift of Dreams," "Blazing Rhythms," and "Remember the Dreams" were all received favorably.
  • At Tokyo DisneySea, "Ariel's Seaside Treasures" and the "Tokyo DisneySea 2nd Anniversary" also proved to be popular.
  • The multi-purpose Waterfront Park was opened at Tokyo DisneySea, and "Disney's Rhythms of the World" was held on the special stage for the first time in the winter season at Tokyo DisneySea.
  • In consumer product sales, a number of items were sold in conjunction with events at the two theme parks and enjoyed enthusiastic response. Hit items at Tokyo Disneyland include the leather strap on which names are custom-inscribed according to guest orders. Items related to "Ariel's Seaside Treasures" sold at Tokyo DisneySea generated positive results.
  • In food and beverage sales, various special menus commemorating the 20th anniversary were promoted at Tokyo Disneyland. In particular, the "Special Menu Revival," which featured menus offered during events over the past 20 years, proved extremely popular. We also pursued active sales strategies at Tokyo DisneySea, such as the opening of two new restaurants.
