About IKSPIARI

A new "town" filled with stories and entertainment
IKSPIARI, a "town" filled with stories and entertainment, opened on July 7, 2000 adjacent to Maihama Station on JR Keiyo Line and only 10 km from the center of Tokyo.

Oriental Land Co.,Ltd. and its wholly owned subsidiary, IKSPIARI Co., Ltd., have undertook the concept development, construction work and operation of this multi-faceted commercial complex.

IKSPIARI goes beyond the conventional shopping mall by tying its many elements together with a unifying narrative. Here, TOKYO DISNEY RESORT guests will discover many unique and attractive diversions as they shop, dine at specialty restaurants, and enjoy movies at the state-of-the-art cinema complex.

The overall design concept for IKSPIARI posits an original mythology and history that are reflected in the variety and design of the shops, restaurants and other facilities in IKSPIARI. This theming creates the unique atmosphere of this "town."

Located at the entrance to IKSPIARI is the "Camp Nepos." The word, nepos, is Greek for "cloud" and like clouds with their infinite variety, all children have their own unique identity and abilities. Camp Nepos is a place where every child will find acceptance, understanding and nurture. The unique Camp Nepos programs are designed for preschool children to cultivate their skills and set the stage for intellectual growth in later life. Highly trained and able staff members will guide the children in various play activities. The experience at Camp Nepos will help children discover and develop their hidden talents and strengths. The importance that Oriental Land Company attaches to children is symbolized by the placement of Camp Nepos at the entrance to IKSPIARI.

At the other end of IKSPIARI is the Cinema Complex. With 16 screens and 3,500 seats, it is one of the largest cinema complexes in Japan. This facility is constructed with the audience in mind: wide screens stretch from wall to wall in each theater, stadium-style seating permits an unobstructed view from every seat, and a digital sound system assures cutting-edge fidelity. This facility is operated by the major American cinema company, AMC Entertainment International Inc. This is the first time that this company operates a complex in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Between Camp Nepos and the Cinema Complex is the "Shops and Restaurants" area, which is organized into 9 zones with distinctive themes. There are more than 130 shops and restaurants, some tenanted and others owned and operated directly by Ikspiari Co., Ltd. In particular, the shops run by Ikspiari Co., Ltd. will reinforce and enhance the theme and image of each zone. Seasonal shows and street performances are staged in various locations in the Shops and Restaurants area.

IKSPIARI adds a whole new aspect to the Maihama area and expand the shopping, dining and entertainment experience of the TOKYO DISNEY RESORT. Visitors to the TOKYO DISNEY RESORT, including TOKYO DISNEYLAND Park, are certain to explore IKSPIARI. Other visitors will be commuters along the JR Keiyo Line and neighborhood residents who will stop by to enjoy their leisure time at IKSPIARI, taking in all the experiences this new "town" has to offer.

"IKSPIARI"
This is a word coined from "experience" and "peri," the name of a good, warm- hearted fairy of Persian myth.

THE STORY OF "IKSPIARI"
Once, long ago, the land where IKSPIARI now stands was a sandy shore. Here, a sea-trading town came into being and gradually gained renown for its skillful boat-builders and sailors. Over the years, merchants from around the world made their way to this town, bringing a rich variety of products and ideas.

As cultures and concepts from around the world were absorbed and transformed, the town acquired an identity all its own. Many kinds of artists including jewelry designers and musicians settled here and contributed to the town's unique creative culture.

The town grew and became a center not only for trade but also a place where communities gathered for festivals and games. In later years, the town's ambiance attracted set designers, costume designers, and other artists from the world of entertainment. And the townspeople began to express their concern for the environment and children everywhere.

Today, the history of the town can be seen in the various areas. The by-gone era of sea trading has left its mark on "Museum Lane" and "The Courtyard." The early years of the town's creativity can be seen in "Chefs' Row" and parts of "Gracious Square," while the mercantile culture is reflected in "Traders' Passage."

The tradition of festivals and games lives on in "Trail and Track." "Theater Front," "B'Way," parts of "Gracious Square," and "Cinema Complex" are representations of the culture of entertainment. "Camp Nepos" and "Garden Site" are the outgrowth of the town's concern for children and nature. The shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities in Ikspiari, even its streets and courtyards, collectively convey the mythology and history of the "town." Together they give IKSPIARI an excitement and fascination never seen before.
